The Thursday Night Supernatural Market transformed Neptune Oasis into a vibrant and mystical landscape. As I strode into the marketplace with Jace, I could smell the sea salt from the ocean air mixing with the glorious aroma of the food vendors. With the added touches of fall colors and pumpkins outlined in the backdrop from the stores, it was easy to see why supernaturals looked forward to the monthly festival.

Colorful tents lined the cobblestone street with myriad light orbs glowing in the air. Vendors sold everything from magical wares to exotic fruits and enchanted artworks. The first stall that caught my eye was a display of floating candles…their soft glow creating an ethereal ambiance that seemed to draw me and many other customers in.

The vendor, a tiny pixie maybe eight inches tall with iridescent wings that shimmered like a kaleidoscope of colors, chatted animatedly with a group of customers, each holding a candle cradled gently in their hands. The pixie’s voice was musical, carrying hints of enchantment that seemed to echo through the air.

“Welcome, welcome, dear patrons!” the pixie exclaimed, her voice tinkling like wind chimes. “Behold the wonders of the Mood-Light Candles! Each candle is attuned to your emotions, changing its hue to match your innermost feelings.”

A female werewolf shifter in the group raised an eyebrow, skepticism evident in her expression. “Emotionally attuned candles? How does that work?”

The pixie’s eyes twinkled with mischief as she reached for a candle with a pure white flame. “Allow me to demonstrate.” She held the candle aloft, her small hand enveloping the flame without harm. Slowly, the candle’s soft, white glow began to shift, the light morphing into delicate shades of blue, reflecting the calm of a tranquil sea.

“See?” the pixie chimed, her voice a gentle harmony. “The candle senses your emotions and mirrors them. Calm and peaceful, just like the gentle waves of the ocean.”

A murmur of amazement swept through the small crowd, but the woman’s skepticism only seemed to grow.

“Oh, yeah?” the woman said. “What if I were to feel excited or joyful?”

The pixie’s wings fluttered with excitement as she selected another candle, this one bathed in a warm, golden light. “Ah, excellent question! Observe.” As the pixie’s own mood seemed to shift to one of delight, the candle’s radiance transformed into a vibrant and cheerful pink, reminiscent of cotton candy.

The werewolf shifter’s impatience got the better of her, and reaching out, she snatched the candle from the pixie’s hand. Instantly, the tranquil pink shifted and swirled, and the flame crackled with an angry, fiery red. The light flared and pulsed, casting an intense scarlet glow that seemed to throb with frustration and irritation. The woman’s eyes widened in shock, and she dropped the candle as if she’d been burned.

As the pixie gracefully caught the falling candle and placed it back on the display, she shot the werewolf a playful yet knowing glance. It was as if her gaze held a hint of “I told you so” without uttering a word.

I couldn’t help but snicker.
